Super Easy Super Awesome: Latent Image Super-Contest!

In case the title of this blog post is not clear enough I am hosting a contest on this blog. Who the fuck am I to have a contest? What right do I have to test you?

I dunno, I just thought it would be fun. Why not? Don't think about it. You will get cash and prizes for winning (actual contest contains no cash and the people who would want the prizes are probably very few). This is my first contest. There may be more if it's a positive experience.

Let us now get to the good stuff. How do you enter and how do you win? This is Super Easy, as I said in the title. All you have to do is correctly answer 16 really easy questions that pertain to my blog and my podcast, submit your answers as soon as you can and the first five people to get the correct answers to me via email will be entered in a drawing for the final grand prize winner. Depending on the turnout the runners up should also get prizes.

Anybody can enter this contest. Anybody at all! Postage of the prizes is all paid for by me and I will ship anywhere in the world, within reason (sorry Antarctica).

The grand prize is something cool that actually pertains to this show although it is nothing too flashy or expensive. If you win you will recieve the very first volume in the manga series "Negima! Magister Negi Magi" which I reviewed in Episode 5.

In addition to this manga you will also recieve a photographic print from my portfolio (you may choose which one) printed either digitally or in the darkroom (again, this is your choice) and a cd compilation of all of the Latent Image Podcast episodes complete with extras.
The winner will be announced on a future episode of The Latent Image Podcast. Good luck everyone (not that you'll need it, this is easy).

Top 6 Greatest Countries (Ever)!

Looks like The Latent Image is starting to get some readers/ listeners from various places around the world. This is great. I'm very happy to have people from all over the world listening to the show, reading my articles or looking at my pictures. According to my statistics page and according to bandwidth, not how many hits or pages I receive (because I don't know the difference between these or what they really even mean) here is a run down of which countries are viewing my page or downloading my page the most in the month of November. Like I said, this is based on bandwidth coming from that country, because online, bandwidth, like money, talks.

1) USA:
Since this show is coming out of the USA and most of my friends live here it is only natural that the highest bandwidth is from the USA. I know that I am responsible for some of the bandwidth in the USA because I've downloaded each of my podcasts at least twice, just to make sure that they download smoothly and sound ok. Thank you USA and thanx all my friends here in Illinois that have been supporting my show and listening to me and voting for me. If it wasn't for you guys I wouldn't have any votes at all probably!

2) Japan:
The second highest bandwidth surprisingly goes to Japan. People in Japan haven't visited the site or downloaded the episodes half as much as those in the USA but they're still in second place. Also remember that I'm responsible for some of the bandwidth in the USA too. If I lived in Japan, then Japan would have the highest bandwidth. Also I'd probably be a lot different and possibly a lot cooler than I am now. It's really cool that people in Japan listen to the show. I'm not sure if they're American's over in Japan or Japanese people themselves but the numbers don't lie. People in Japan are listening or else their bandwidth wouldn't be so high. Thank you very much Japan. Feel free to tell all of your Japanese friends to listen to me. Thank you for music by Shonen Knife, Anime and Manga. Especially thank you for Vampire Hunter D. Amen.

3) Taiwan:
Now the 3rd place I'm going to give to a country that doesn't necessarily have the highest bandwidth but I know that I'm getting the 3rd most hits from this place. Taiwan, you come in 3rd place. Sorry that you're not second or first, but that's just how it goes. You guys have to listen to the show and someday you too can have a high bandwidth. Unlike Japan, I know why I have a lot of hits from Taiwan and it's all thanx to a very special gal, Gem of the [Misadventures in Taiwain] podcast/ videocast. She's a celebrity in my eyes and she was kindly enough to put a link to my site on her blog. Thanx a billion Gem! I already have a link to her site on mine over there to the right on the sidebar, but I'll put another one up, just as a thank you. Even though I'm sure that she's not reaping the benefits of a substantial number of hits thanx to me and my link, I leave them up to pay homage to a great podcaster. Yep, that's right, I'm sucking up in order to get another link... No no I'm not. Thank you Taiwan for checking out my site. You should really listen to my podcast, all of you English speaking Taiwanese. I very rarely attempt to speak Chinese on the show and even when I do... I suck at it. I know that English is being taught in Taiwan as early as primary school and since I basically speak English at a primary school level we should get along just fine. I like Taiwan... lotsa good people come from there and I really respect what you guys did with the National party and the Republic of China. Good for you guys. I just hope that you can work out your differences with China peacefully.

4) Great Britain:
Next highest is Great Britain. I can't believe that an English speaking country gets a lower rating than two non-English speaking countries, but I'm not mad about it. Maybe if you start voting for me on Podcastalley.com you can win my favor. Then again, I can understand how you may not want to after I devulged a dirty piece of your past in Episode 7 with the whole "C.Men in a Jar" fiasco. I don't make the Late Night Radio segments, I just play them. I like Great Britain so dont get me wrong. The Young Ones, Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean), John Cleese (whom my cat Basil is named for), Robbie Williams, Elton John, Irvine Welsh and The Getaway 1 and 2 all come from the UK so I couldn't possibly love you any more. Also I have some friends in England too. The Thornton family who were so very kind to let me stay with them for a week while I was in England live in the town of March in England. I have never known a family so kind and loving before. Really kinda makes me wish I would have come from a halfway normal family... Things would have been a lot different I bet. Thank you Great Britain. Oh yeah, how can I have forgotten to thank you for J.K. Rowling?! Harry Potter 4 is coming out in theaters this weekend in the USA and I couldn't be more excited. Harry Potter 4 is really the one where things start to get awesome.

5) Singapore:
I think you'll all be surprised to hear that Singapore is number 5 on the list of highest bandwidth. At least 1 person in Singapore has downloaded my podcast, thanx man... whoever you are. What did you think of the show? I like Singapore too. I had a friend that lived in Singapore. He grew up there and then moved to Scotland for 5 years so he had this awesome Singapore/ Scottish accent. He's a film major at my school and I think he'll be the next M. Night Shamalan. Just because he reminds me of him. His name is Abalash, look for him in a theater near you.

6) France:
I'll stop at number 6... Number 6 is France. Again... at least 1 person has downloaded or... 2 people have half downloaded one of the Latent Image Podcast episodes in France. Thank you guy or guys. Hope you liked it. I like France pretty much too really. I know a lot of assholes (Bill O'Reilly and most Republicans) don't like France. Fuck you guys! (not you France, the French-hating Republicans). There's nothing wrong with France and I admire you for not joining up in the war in Iraq. What country thinks it's a good idea to send thousands of people over to another country to kill a bunch of other guys in order to satiate their President's ego and then tries to get everyone else involved so that they don't come off looking like such big assholes? Uh... the U.S. does. I'll apologize on behalf of everyone else, France, we're sorry for giving you shit. Thank you for giving us some awesome movies though. Luc Besson is an awesome French director. He did "The Professional" and one of my wife's favorites: "The Big Blue". Also... Audrey Tautou and Virginie Ledoyen are both from France and they are quite possibly the most beautiful women to ever exist. Luc Besson... can you make a movie where Audrey Tautou and Virginie Ledoyen are both rival lesbian contract killers who decide that the only way to solve their differences is to... well [insert dirty sexual things here]

That's it for my top uh... 6 (?) I've had a lot of readers from many many countries this November. European Union... you would have come in number 7 but I had to stop somewhere. 1 person in all of the European Union has downloaded my podcast. Thank you very much.

Since I'm a cynical person, here comes the sad part of the blog post. Even though I've had so many readers/ listeners from all over the world I STILL have only 14 votes on Podcastalley.com. *Grimaces with indignation* Why?
You know, I wont think any less of you if you vote for me without even listening to the show. My mom did. Just imagine it as being like the blog only 15x's better. That's a lot better, and proven to be so. 15x's is not just an arbitrary number, I assure you. It is factually 1500% better than what I type on the blog and there are sound effects!

Episode 7: The Funk Show

Episode 7 is ready for your enjoyment. Here's an outline of what's in store for you.

The Funk Episode:

This episode features a special guest announcer: my friend Low-voice Billy. His voice fit in perfectly with the whole "funk" theme of this episode, thanks for lending your voice Low-voice Billy.

- Phototalk

I talk about a photo assignment for my view camera class about photographing ones fear and Bill O'Reilly. Bellow is the mentioned "inflamatory" photo of Mr. O'Reilly.

-Media Junky Files:

Review of the books "Lunar Park" by Bret Easton Ellis and "Vampire Hunter D" by Hideyuki Kikuchi.
We listen to a song that really hits the spot; Unleaded Logic's cover of "Mad World".

Late Night Radio

I play a clip from an old BBC documentary that I heard late the other night on the radio. This seemingly boring documentary reveals the seedy underbelly of the world of the early 20th Century British sandwich spread market. I may be the only one that finds this documentary funny/ disturbing but then again, I'm not exactly right in the head.

Opening title music "Never Let me Down Again" by "Depeche Mode"
"C.Men in a Jar" Comes courtesy of Rick F. and Michael M. of the BBC and ZB inc.

By the way, If you're a MySpace member, add me as a buddy!

Episode 6: An Essay On Christianity

Episode 6 is done and ready for download. Its different from the normal format of the show for a few reasons. Firstly this show is totally dedicated to a short essay about Christianity that I wrote for my Mystical Consciousness class. Don't worry, this is not a Sunday sermon podcast. It's basically a few thoughts on Christianity; nice and simple.

The second reason that this show is different is that I'm experimenting with a new type of recorded audio called "Streaming Nasal Audio" which causes my voice to sound more nasaly than usual as well as causing my nose to stream mucus. In other words... I have a cold and I guess this podcast suffers because of that, but I wanted to get this one out there. Also, this show was recorded on my Olympus D2 Digital Audio recorder which I may or may not return to Radio Shack. I bought it in hopes that I could use it to make a show when I'm away from the computer and also so that I can interview people. The audio is choppy on this show because I was in a car as I recorded it, but it usually records nice and clear. Still not sure if it's worth the money to keep this thing or not.

For a transcript of the essay read on this episode contact me and I'll email you one. Click this link to hear the show or subscribe to my podcast via Feedburner (link to Feedburner is located on the right side of this page).

Quicktime Photo Portfolios

I wanted to post this short slideshow portfolio that I did a year ago. These little portfolios are a nice way to display your work to others in a format and order that you chose. This portfolio of mine features pictures that I took while living in China and is set to music by "Twelve Girls Band". The pictures are meant to give a little taste of Chinese culture and everyday life. I gave it a cheeky little title which nobody besides me liked. That's okay though. The pictures are what are important anyway. Hope you enjoy it!

Making these are extremely easy. First you simply need a group of images that you like on a computer. These should have a high enough resolution to be displayed full screen on a monitor without much pixelation. 180 pixels per inch should be good enough. Then import the jpg files to iPhoto. I think it's best to use the jpg format because the file size is small enough that when you import it into iPhoto it wont take very long to upload. If you try to import Photoshop Document files (PSD) it will take forever to upload. Once they are uploaded put them in a desired order and click the slideshow icon. This will give you a few options, for example: how long each image appears on screen and what, if any, background music you would like. After you view your slideshow and are happy with it, go to File>Export to Quicktime. Again you'll have a few options to choose from concerning the slideshow. It will quickly export the show and a .mov file will appear on your desktop. Surprisingly these files aren't very large which is good because they wont use up a lot of disk space or take long to open. I hope that you get a chance to try this out. If you do, I would like to see them!

Yeeeeh Haaaaw!

I got a little good news tonight. Well.... it makes me glad anyway. Podcast Alley.com accepted my podcast... meaning that people can now find my cast on their site and also my listeners can vote for my show. Well... so what? I get votes, big deal right? Yeah big deal! Votes are cool! I want votes! What'll I get if I "win".... I dont think you can win, but I want to be voted for. I think I'll get more publicity if I get a high vote count which means my words will reach the ears of many, and many shall hear the truth! Well... my show is actually a lot of fucking around but.... people should hear it. You can vote for me at podcastalley.com. Just click vote under the name of the podcast. Thanx a lot everybody! Votes are tallied monthly, so if you're pleased with me each month take time to vote and/or leave a comment on podcast alley.

P.S. Another thing to mention while I'm mentioning syndication and all that... Notice my updated link bar on the side of this page (right side)? There is a little button with the words "feedburner" on it. I submitted my show and blog to feedburner.com and they are publishing and distributing my show via RSS (really simple sindication/ rich site summary) so if you want to subscribe to my podcast through Feedburner you can click the link there and do so. However, you can still get to my podcast by clicking the links posted on the articles associated with each show or enter the following URL into your podcast downloading software:
http://latentimage.unleadedlogic.com/podcast_xml/podcast.xml

People who don't have an mp3 player or just want to listen to my show on their computer can listen to/ subscribe to my show and blog too, dont worry, you're not left out. Simply click the link that I give you with each podcast and you can download it by right clicking (PC) or Control+clicking (Mac) this link I give you each time and choosing to "download linked file". There, now you own a part of me. I offer Feedburner as an option because for some it may be easier and also it helps me to keep track of how many of you are listening... Bwa ha ha, Big brother is watching. No... actually I'm just using it to get my podcast out there to more listeners.

Advanced Color Photography Assignments (Continued)

There has been a big lapse in the work that I've been doing for my Advanced Color Photo class. I've been shooting very sporadically for this class and I have been moving through rolls of film very slowly. However I just had a little kick in the ass and got some more work done so that means that there is something for me to show off. I showed these new pictures to my professor (the one who hates everyone's work) and he said that they're "not bad" and a few of them are "interesting". That means a lot coming from him. These are a few pictures that I did for the boring "choose a color" assignment and the not as boring "mixed color assignment". All of these were taken with my Nikon N70 on Kodak Portra NC 160 film rated as 100 ISO. I scanned them on a Imacon scanner and touched them up in Photoshop CS2. Click any image for an enlarged view.

The color I chose to photograph here is blue, although it's not very obvious.

A pretty reflection in a puddle.

Can you guess what color I am photographing here?

Not a great example of mixed light or color temperatures but a cool picture anyway.

This is actually the classroom in which I have Adv. Color Photo. Ironic huh? Notice the blue color cast in the doorway, all because of the flourescent light.

This is a picture of me blowing fire outside my garage at night.

Not only am I happy to have those pictures out of the way, I'm also very happy with the results. Now it's time to move onto my final project for this class. It's one of my own choosing but I'm not going to mention it yet just in case I wimp out and change my mind. However, when I do decide for sure if I'm going to go with this idea, you'll all be the first to know. I know that people are afraid to leave comments or email me feedback, but I'd really appreciate it when I start to post pictures of my next project because I want it to be really good. More to come soon.
