Keep Him In Your Thoughts

A few days ago the beloved mascot of the Latent Image , Basil, (I bet you never knew we had a mascot) underwent surgery to strip away his manhood... or cat-hood, or male-cathood. Simply said, we had him neutered. He's recovering nicely now and has totally bounced back, except he still walks a little funny. He also is more skittish than usual, but we're hoping that he'll calm down soon.

Next time you have a drink, raise a toast to Basil, a very good young cat, cut down in the prime of his life, who was never able to impregnate another cat and feel the pride of fatherhood. Also he was never able to spray his pungent feline scent on carpet nor furniture and will never know the feeling of glory as he watches me on hand and knees as I attempt to scrub out his odor from the floor.

Is it cruel to neuter an animal? I've been feeling a little guilty about this lately. He seems fine but I've turned him into a little eunuch and I can't help but feel that I've cruely and unjustly imposed my will on his privates. I have tried to justify this in my head though. Never being neutered myself, I'm not very familiar with the after effects. I know that it prevents a cat from impregnating another, so maybe its just like a vasectomy. If that's the case then Basil will now be able to enjoy all the casual and risk free feline sex that he can muster. But.... I think I'll wait until he's older. He's only 5 months old now. I only wish my parents would have had the decency to give me a vasectomy when I was 5 months old. I'd have had a lot more fun in highschool I think.
